How to Clean High-Performance Activewear

Workout clothes can sometimes retain bad smells even after washing. Distilled white vinegar contains acids that can separate the dirt from the fabric, eliminating bacteria and odor. This affordable solution won't damage your high-quality workout clothes, and the scent will disappear once you've washed them.

Soak and Rinse
To properly clean your activewear, you can create a mixture of 1 part distilled white vinegar and 4 parts cold water. Soak your clothes in this solution for 15 to 30 minutes before washing. If you can't wash them right away, it's best to soak them for 30 minutes and then rinse them with plain water. Once you're done, leave your clothes to air dry before putting them in the hamper.

Sort and Turn Clothes Inside Out
It's important to wash your sportswear properly. Make sure to wash it separately or with similar fabrics and colors. Also, don't forget to zip up any zippers and turn the clothing inside out before putting it in the washing machine. This is because bacteria and dirt tend to accumulate on the inside of your activewear.

Add the Correct Detergent
Use the appropriate amount of detergent as directed on the bottle. Even if your clothes have a strong odor, just add about 2 teaspoons. Overusing detergent can lead to bacterial and yeast growth on your clothes. For sportswear, opt for laundry detergents specifically made for moisture-wicking materials such as Hex Performance or Nathan Power Wash.

Set the Washing Machine Cycle
To ensure your workout clothes last longer, it's best to wash them in cold water using the gentle cycle setting on your washing machine. Using hot water and strong agitation can damage the fabric and shorten the lifespan of your high-performance activewear.

Air-Dry, When Possible
It is advisable to air-dry your high-performance workout clothes whenever you can. Simply hang them on a drying rack. In case you need to use a dryer, make sure to set it at the lowest heat setting to prevent any damage to the fabric.
